Three reasons why Mallorca is a paradise for cyclists
You have probably read before that Mallorca is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean with spectacular beaches and a large mountain range, which is protected by the UNESCO. This place on earth that we are lucky enough to call our home is, in fact, an island with a rare combination when it comes down to landscape. And it has been that unique combination that has pinpointed Mallorca as one of the favourite places for cyclists from all over the world. Not only professional cycling teams visit the island to train for races, but also amateur cyclists looking to enjoy themselves on a bike-friendly holiday have chosen Mallorca and this has set our island on the cycling-radar. Would you like to know why? Well, here’s why.
Mallorca is a cycling paradise
First of all: the weather. In Mallorca we have 300 days of sunshine a year. Even though we do have Winter and Autumn (some people think we live in Summer and Spring!), we can proudly say that we enjoy great temperatures all year long. In Winter the temperatures can sink to about 2 degrees minimum and 13 degrees as a medium temperature, but we will always still have the sun to shine on us. It is rare to find many rainy days on the island and even though it snows in the highest areas of the Tramuntana mountain range, it rarely affects the cycling routes. If it rains, you will probably be looking at a beautiful Winter-sun a couple hours later. In Autumn and in Spring the temperature is just perfect, as you can count on the minimum to be about 14 degrees and the medium temperature about 20 degrees. The official reports say that Mallorca has a medium temperature of 16 to 18 degrees all year long: who’s up for some cycling?
Second reason why Mallorca is a cycling paradise: varied quiet roads. With a spectacular scenery, this beautiful island is really diverse in the countryside it has to offer: there are rolling low hills, a pan-flat plain and a stunning mountain range. In addition to the variety, Mallorca is filled with great roads as diverse as the countryside, offering a perfect place for all kinds of cyclists. As there is so much variety on their roads, you may think that you have to choose just one to cycle according to where you stay, but the truth is that they are also arranged close together so that you can mix all three types in one day of riding your bike.
Last, but not least: Mallorca is a bike-friendly island. For a decade, this island has hosted pros who come for Winter and, as a consequence, it has also become one of the most popular cycling-destinations in Europe. In Mallorca the contribution visiting cyclists make to the economy is highly valued, which is why the government has invested in keeping the roads smooth and repaired. Hotels, restaurants and citizens have also joined the trend and have prepared this island to be as bike-friendly as possible. At Pabisa Hotels we have an exclusive bike-friendly service called ‘Pabisa Bikes’ by Max Hürzeler: this is a biking-experience where we will take care of you while organizing the best cycling-holiday on Mallorca there is.
