Welcome to our first post of 2015! It’s the start of a new year, and we’ve got lots of exciting things lined up to tell you about. We’ll be continuing to use our blog to give you loads of ideas and suggest some really great ways of making the most of the island of Majorca.
New Year is celebrated around the world from midnight onwards. Time differences mean that Australia and New Zealand are the first to welcome in the New Year, and as the hours go by, other countries join in the festivities.
Palma de Mallorca is a thrilling, cosmopolitan city with lots going on at every hour of the day and night. And whether you’ve had a hectic day shopping or exploring the city’s major monuments, we recommend taking a break from your busy schedule to discover Palma by night.
With a 6 km expanse of sand, Playa de Palma is one of Majorca’s best-known and most noted tourist areas, and a favourite destination for countless Europeans, especially Germans.
For over 50 years the island of Mallorca has thrown itself wholeheartedly into tourism; it has become a mature destination, enabling visitors to find the experience they are seeking and enjoy an island that is both delightful and highly varied.
Apart from the Majorca’s remarkably fine weather at Christmas, there is a host of traditions and customs to be enjoyed at this time of year. Two nights in particular stand out as opportunities for sharing with family and friends, for reviving old acquaintances and traditions. Allow us to take this opportunity to tell you about how we celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Majorca.
The Christmas lights will be switched on in late November, and the streets will fill up with street vendors’ stalls, the scent of hot roasted chestnuts, and lots of people getting into the festive spirit.
Although it’s been a while coming, it seems that finally autumn’s here. The weather in Playa de Palma is always pleasant, but the first rainy spells have arrived and in the streets there are much fewer visitors. The beach is lovely, but we miss the summer in Mallorca, the festivals and, most of all, the people.
Do you want to know the island as well as the Mallorcans do? Take part in the towns’ festivals and enjoy their gastronomy and customs.
