Come see the meteor shower in Playa de Palma
Every year in mid-August an astronomical phenomenon takes place, attracting the eyes of millions of people. We are talking about the Perseids, also known as the tears of San Lorenzo, a meteor shower that, although not the biggest or the prettiest, is best known for occurring during the month of August, when the skies are usually clear and many people are on holiday.
But when can you exactly see these shooting stars? What are they? And from where can you see them better? Keep on reading and you’ll learn everything you need to know about the Perseids 2015.
This phenomenon takes place every year in the Northern Hemisphere between July 16 and August 24, but the time when you can see the most shooting stars is in August, between the 11th and 13th.
This year August 13 seems like the best day to enjoy the meteor shower, as that night there will be new moon and the visibility will be excellent.
But what are these bright stars moving across the sky? They are pieces of a comet called Swift-Tuttle whose orbit intersects the Earth’s. When the comet passes close to the Sun, more pieces come loose (meteors). Those are what we then see as shooting stars.
A dark beach against a clear horizon is one of the best observation points. So Playa de Palma becomes one of the ideal places to enjoy this natural phenomenon in Mallorca, and even your own balcony in one of our hotels will become an unbeatable and also intimate observatory.
This year you can’t miss it! Save the date in your schedule and don’t miss the prettiest meteor shower of the summer.
